Nine Sols NSP is a hand-drawn 2D platformer game with a rich story and an evasive combat system inspired by Sekiro. Journey through an Asian fantasy world, explore lands once ruled by an ancient alien civilization, and accompany the vengeful hero on his quest to overthrow the Nine Suns, the powerful rulers of this devastated kingdom.

On the rare occasions when Yi encounters someone who isn’t trying to kill him, they usually settle in his headquarters. The diverse community that grows there—from an eccentric mechanical wizard to an (always right-wing) conspiracy theorist—offers captivating, touching, and surprisingly funny glimpses into the lands Yi left behind and desperately tries to reclaim. Nine Sols ROM recognizes the importance of this context for Yi’s journey and even develops a fast travel system that allows him to move seamlessly between points on the map.

While the story is masterfully integrated into the gameplay, the dialogue doesn’t reach the same level of perfection. Most of the time, Yi is an unlikable character. Despite his pleasant appearance, he’s a stereotypical, cynical, and ridiculous protagonist. There’s nothing wrong with crudeness and comical humor, but here it seems to serve more than just making Yi unlikable. This problem would be less serious if the comedic dialogue were more subtle, but the humor feels predictable and even repetitive at times (one character is constantly ridiculed for his weight).

• Both NSP and XCI formats work perfectly with Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators. NSP files are installed directly, while XCI files are full cartridge dumps.
