The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon NSP

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon NSP offers an RPG experience that delivers a rich story through turn-based combat, character interactions, and a narrative journey focused on the game world. The story itself is magnificent. Ryan’s journey kept me glued to the screen as he uncovered the true purpose of Project Startaker and the conspiracy surrounding it. Kevin’s story is equally captivating; he reclaims his “Pervert Hunter” title and learns his purpose and how to approach it. Surprisingly, Van’s path (at least initially) is the least exciting of the three; he and his team battle a mysterious new group called Vestiges. Van’s path is about as long as the other two combined, which makes sense considering Trails Beyond the Horizon is his story, but the first half of his journey is lengthy and picks up the pace of the game.

For example, the roguelite dungeon Marchen Garten returns as Grim Garten and retains the same gameplay mechanics. You progress through a minigame, moving around a board and fighting monsters until you reach the floor boss. Only the first half of the dungeon is necessary to understand the story; the second half is entirely optional. Unfortunately, unlike Marchen Garten, it’s not possible to continue playing after obtaining the completion badge in Grim Garten.

However, I started to lose interest in the mode when I got stuck at a section of the story where completing a round was mandatory. Specifically, in this round, I had to complete three objectives: activate five stations on the map, defeat an enemy, and destroy five “mega” enemies in location battles. The last two objectives were easy, but I played several rounds in the location, gained about six experience levels fighting monsters, and still couldn’t find the fifth station.

• Both NSP and XCI formats work perfectly with Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators. NSP files can be installed directly while XCI files are complete cartridge dumps.
• On a modded Nintendo Switch, use Tinfoil or Goldleaf to install NSP files directly to your console.
