Yakuza Kiwami NSP is an action adventure game that delivers combat with open world exploration, side activities, and a story driven experience. The story revolves around Kazuma Kiryu, a former Yakuza (Japanese mafia) member released after serving ten years in prison. The game’s portrayal of the Yakuza has always been somewhat realistic, even though Kiryu possesses an almost unbelievable sense of morality. However, many of the fictional Tokyo residents in the game are not particularly friendly. Yakuza is sometimes compared to the Grand Theft Auto series, but the only similarity is the overall mix of crime and drama. Unlike most Western crime games, Yakuza Kiwami’s gameplay focuses on close combat, not car theft or shooting.

Its gameplay blends fast-paced action combat and elements of various genres, often pitting you against multiple enemies simultaneously. You can choose from three different difficulty levels, which is important because Yakuza Kiwami is not an easy game, and you can adjust the difficulty to your liking. Kazuma can utilize a variety of fighting styles. These styles are linked to the direction of the control panel and represent unique move combinations, ability trees, and finishing moves. The default fighting style is a balanced style that combines speed and power. The Throwing style is the complete opposite; incredibly fast and agile, but you can’t perform moves like throwing opponents. The third style is the Beast Style – what a great name! This style gives you extremely powerful attacks, but they are much slower, and Kazuma can use many environmental items as weapons.
