I really enjoyed the diverse environments, components, and aliens that the Space Chef developers have masterfully designed and given memorable names. Collecting items is sometimes as simple as picking them from the ground or harvesting them from a plant, but other times you’ll need tools you haven’t yet unlocked, or perhaps you’ll have to earn an alien’s trust, which feels like solving a puzzle. This adds a fun mystery to the environments and creates excitement when you finally get the upgrade you need to explore a previously blocked area. Combat is also essential, whether it’s the need for more betel nut meat or the task of killing Polka snakes.

The hitboxes are rather odd; for example, a hit that shouldn’t have connected will, while a hit that should have, won’t. You also have no way to defend yourself by dodging or blocking, which forced me to resort to hit-and-run tactics.

• Both NSP and XCI formats work perfectly with Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators. NSP files are installed directly, while XCI files are full cartridge dumps.
