I Hate This Place Switch ROM is inspired by the comic book series of the same name and follows a young woman named Elena on her journey to her ominous childhood home, Rutherford Farm. What’s wrong with this seemingly peaceful cottage? Of course, it’s an incredibly haunted place. When Elena was a child, her mother was abducted by a mysterious figure. Elena suspects the Horned Man, the god (or perhaps demon) of this region, is responsible. Unable to come to terms with this perplexing mystery, Elena meets her friend Lou, who performs a ritual to seek the Horned Man’s guidance; however, things don’t go as planned. Lou eventually disappears, leaving Elena with two goals: to find her friend and learn what happened to her mother.

Besides achieving your goal, exploring this forest is often action-packed thanks to the game’s masterful use of sound, a defining feature of the experience. The rustling of leaves and distant roars create a more hostile forest soundscape than the mutant cult members you must fight.
