Game description
Little Nightmares III Switch NSP is a dark horror adventure game with eerie environments, cooperative gameplay, cleverly designed puzzles, and a suspenseful, spine-chilling story. Embark on a new adventure in the unique world of Little Nightmares. In Little Nightmares III, you’ll guide Low and Helou on their quest to escape the unknown. Conquer your childhood fears with a friend in online co-op or play solo against the AI.
I’ve only played for an hour, and I think I’ll enjoy Little Nightmares 3 just as much. It’s practically the same. These games are cinematic platformers that combine the grandiose atmosphere of Inside and Limbo with a surreal vision reminiscent of Tim Burton’s films. They don’t offer any significant technical innovations; the series’ strength lies in its atmosphere and charm, and judging by my experience with Little Nightmares 3, that’s unlikely to change. However, there are some significant changes.
In this game, every tool can be used in different ways to solve puzzles, but calling the obstacles I encountered in Little Nightmares 3 “puzzles” might be a bit of an exaggeration. Playing solo, there was a certain tension and constant action. In one room, Lou had to cut the power in the floor with a bow and arrow, while in another, someone had to use a flashlight to clear a path through swarms of cockroaches. Of course, there were plenty of ways to enhance cooperative play with a partner. The first thing that struck me about Little Nightmares was the atmosphere.
The game looks fantastic, but what impressed me most was how it uses light and shadow to highlight what we wouldn’t normally want to see and hide what we’d rather see. This game understands that the scariest things are often what we don’t see or only glimpse, piques our curiosity and creates a sense of looming danger before the climax. And, of course, there’s the sound design; it masterfully uses ambient sounds and background noise to heighten the tension, whether it’s the faint thud of a soccer ball or the hum of heavy machinery in a candy factory (more on that later).
