Game description
READY OR DIE NSP is an action game that puts you in situations where indecision is deadly and discipline is the only way to survive. I have always been impressed by this comic series’ commitment to the idea that fantasy is never neutral. Every fairy tale has its price. Every roleplaying game has its ghosts. And every fantasy world is also wrought with fear, desire, sadness, and hunger. Stephanie Hans’s exquisite illustrations further reinforce this message with their dreamlike compositions, vibrant colors, and tender, intimate facial expressions. Her work doesn’t simply depict the world; it reflects it vividly, boldly, and impressively, conveying the depth of the characters’ emotional experiences.
The plot and even some elements of your game may differ from the comics, but one thing remains constant: you experience it as a fantasy character, who, in turn, plays as another fantasy character. But if they grab you, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy what awaits you next. Besides the fact that DIE RPG only has three characters, another feature that sets it apart from other role-playing games is the use of real dice. I’m not just talking about physical or virtual dice (though the latter may be true for some types of dice), but also the fantasy world of DIE, teeming with goblins, vampires, and dragons.
These dice will largely determine your Paragon—hence the double meaning of the game’s title. The first Paragon is the Dictator, who controls emotions and is so complex that the authors suggested consulting with players before including it in the game. The Dictator is the only Paragon that uses four d4 dice and applies them mechanically and narratively to enhance or suppress emotions, even to the point of causing harm. The Knight of Emotions, the only Paragon that uses eight d8 dice, is the complete opposite of the Dictator. Both ideal models are based on the “Wheel of Emotions,” developed by psychologist Robert Plutchik, an influential researcher in the field of human emotion.
