Slay the Spire NSP is an RPG that combines roguelike and team-based elements. Released in Early Access on Steam, the game quickly gained popularity on Valve’s digital platform, selling over 1.5 million copies. Now, this indie game is coming to Nintendo Switch, offering another excellent option for playing at home or on the go thanks to its minimalist structure and design.

The game is reminiscent of interactive adventure books, where you turn the page to discover the ending. Randomly generated maps are filled with enemies, bosses, bonfires, and unexpected locations, while random plot events make each adventure unique. Dungeons are divided into sections, but there’s no exploration as such, as the map design is incredibly simple; it’s essentially a two-dimensional page with icons representing multiple paths and destinations. These icons also represent the various choices mentioned earlier: the player can fight, open chests, or choose the outcome of a particular scenario. In Slay the Spire, the main goal is to reach the end without dying. There are no extra tries or save points. Victory or defeat matters, and that’s the beauty of it.

One element that adds variety to the core gameplay is the presence of three playable characters. Initially, only the armored character is available, but after one turn, a silent character is unlocked, and after another turn, the silent character unlocks the final character—the disabled character. The differences between the three characters extend beyond appearance; each has a unique fighting style, imbuing them with distinct strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, their card sets capitalize on their strengths, offering them unique cards and combat strategies. The armored character is the main character and belongs to the Warrior class in RPGs.

• Both NSP and XCI formats work perfectly with Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators. NSP files are installed directly, while XCI files are full cartridge dumps.
