The story begins in 2006, where Detective Daiki Katsuki from the Strange Crime Division investigates the murder of a university professor in Kyoto. The crime scene is disturbing, with the victim’s body positioned in a strange way and marked by a mysterious blood pattern drawn on the floor.

At the same time, the story shifts back to 1906. In this earlier era, Detective Masayoshi Nagahama investigates a clockmaker’s murder that mirrors the modern case almost exactly. The body placement and the unusual symbol are identical, suggesting that this is not just coincidence but part of something much larger.
