Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green Switch XCI is an action-adventure game for the Nintendo Switch. Players begin their adventure in Pallet Town, a small, peaceful town inhabited by the famous Professor Oak. After the familiar, but somewhat risky, warning about tall grass, the player is faced with a choice that sparks countless debates: Bulbasaur (Grass-type), Charmander (Fire-type), or Squirtle (Water-type). This seemingly simple decision is the first step on a journey that will determine the player’s initial strategy and emotional bond with their team. This rivalry quickly intensifies with the arrival of an opponent, the professor’s somewhat arrogant grandson, who chooses a starter Pokémon with a type advantage over the player, setting the stage for a series of competitive encounters throughout the adventure.

The main goal is to challenge the eight famous Gyms in the Kanto region. From Brock’s impenetrable defense in Petra City to Lieutenant Sergei’s thrilling trials in Vermilion City and Sabrina’s cryptic puzzles in Saffron City, each Gym Leader offers a unique strategic challenge. Although the path is linear, it feels like a thrilling journey, leading the player through dark caves like Mount Moon, endless winding rock tunnels, and the vast ocean. Interwoven within this adventure is the insidious plan of Team Rocket. This criminal organization, known for its signature malicious style, seeks not to destroy the world but to exploit Pokémon for profit, selling them and resurrecting the enormous fossil Pokémon Kabuto and Omanyte.

Blaze Strike has been reclassified as a physical attack, while Flamethrower remains a special attack. This change allows Pokémon to utilize their abilities more effectively, significantly expanding their strategic depth. Psychic-type Pokémon, virtually unbeatable in the original games, now face a formidable opponent: Dark-type Pokémon. Abilities, a key feature of the third generation, are also present, granting each Pokémon a unique passive advantage that can turn the tide of battle. For example, Charmander’s Flamethrower ability increases the power of its Fire attacks when its HP is low, while Nidoran’s Poison Point ability can poison any opponent it touches.
